CWRU: HFI ENGINEER
Working under general supervision, perform specific aspects of a broader engineering problem. The engineer 1 will receive supervision on new aspects of the work and on difficult problems. HFI is building research platforms to explore the human nervous system, telepresence, robotic/human interaction, and virtual immersion. The engineer 1 will be expected to have practical knowledge in each of these areas and bring a broad skillset to meet potential challenges. Additionally, the engineer 1 will design, fabricate, and document tools and devices for experimental research in human-in-the-loop technological systems with a focus on wearable neural interfacing technology. They will coordinate between multiple cross-disciplinary teams and projects under the Human Fusions Institute umbrella.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform specific aspects of a broader engineering problem. Design and develop complex and specialized equipment, instruments, or systems; coordinate detailed phases of work related to responsibility for part of a major project or for an entire project of moderate scope. (30%)
- Support complex scientific and research programs related to area of specialization; analyze data, monitor and oversee experimental process, and design and develop prototypes, specialized equipment, and/or systems. Construct neural interfaces, wearable technology, user interfaces, and research equipment as needed. (30%)
- Apply methods and techniques, adjust and correlate data, determine errors in results, and follow the operation through a series of related steps to completion. Develop technical and methodological solutions to complex engineering/ scientific problems requiring independent analytical thinking and advanced knowledge. Work with engineers of edge devices to ensure system connections. (15%)
- Exercise judgment on certain details of the work and in assisting in making preliminary selections and adoptions of possible alternatives. Investigate a number of possible variables and often there are no precedents for the choices that must be made. Set platform specs in conjunction with engineering team and partners. Design, implement and validate programming platform. (15%)
